“…10 Over this period, we have learned to treat radiation retinopathy, maculopathy, and optic neuropathy more aggressively with intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy, resulting in preservation of visual acuity. 12,31,[35][36][37] Our local control rates in the 12-year study dropped to 98.1% as compared to 100% in the 5-year study. We found that perineural extension is a risk factor for plaque failure.…”

“…Anti-VEGF can also be used to treat RM and RON and thus may have suppressed anterior segment neovascularization. 31 There are various studies in literature that used plaque brachytherapy sources like 125 I, 60 Co, and 106 Ru along with adjuvant TTT. [32][33][34] These studies have shown high rates of recurrence (14% in Sagoo and associates, 32 10% in Sagoo and associates, 33 and 15% in DePotter and associates 34 ) as compared to our study (2%).…”

“…Thus, the process of vascular endothelial cell proliferation is inhibited and it also facilitates regression of existing vessels. Therapeutically, it decreases iris neovascularisation and reduces the tumour size by obliterating its blood supply 6…”

“…However, our clinical experience over 10 years suggests that almost all anti-VEGF suppressed RM is slowly progressive and that complete resolution (without relapse) of RM was rare (2%). Similarly, secondary enucleation was also rare (n = 1), only seen in one patient whose retinal ischemia severely worsened, leading to neovascular glaucoma after he voluntarily stopped anti-VEGF treatment (47).…”
