Antagonism between lead and zinc ions in plants

Abstract: Abstract:The article presents the results of research which describes antagonism between Pb-Zn in selected plant species from the area of Czestochowa -Mirow district (north-western part of the Czestochowa Upland). There were analyzed changes in the ratio of Pb/Zn in different organs of the tested plants as a function of the Zn content changes. The content of metals in the plants and the soil was determined using atomic absorption spectrophotometry AAS. In all organs of the plants there was observed antagonisti… Show more

“…The zinc content in our A. millefolium was than in the samples from other regions. [8,30,[33][34] Nickel and Mn content were lower in some reports [14,29,34] and higher in some other papers [1,8,30] when compared to our results.…”

“…Lead was a metal that showed negative correlations with some of elements in investigated leaves (Tables S5 and S6). A significant quantity of Pb in plants could have an atmospheric origin (Kabata-Pendias, 2011, Musielińska et al, 2016, while another source is a soil. Although the most of the Pb pollution can be removed from the leaf surfaces by washing with detergents, there is likely to be a significant translocation of Pb into plant tissues.…”

“…The uptake of trace elements by plants is complex and it is conditioned by the interaction of environmental factors. Wild T. serpyllum shows a specific capacity for trace elements phytoaccumulation [43]. There are three stages of the process of metal hyperaccumulation in plants: the uptake with soil solution by the root system, the transport of the ions uptaken by vascular bundles, and the compartmentation and detoxication of metals in the stem [44].…”
