Angiogenesis in Regenerative Dentistry: Are We Far Enough for Therapy?

Abstract: Angiogenesis is a broad spread term of high interest in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering including the dental field. In the last two decades, researchers worldwide struggled to find the best ways to accelerate healing, stimulate soft, and hard tissue remodeling. Stem cells, growth factors, pathways, signals, receptors, genetics are just a few words that describe this area in medicine. Dental implants, bone and soft tissue regeneration using autologous grafts, or xenografts, allografts, their integr… Show more

“…Angiogenesis, which refers to the formation of new blood vessels, plays an important role in guiding bone and dental tissue regeneration. 33 To achieve periodontal tissue regeneration, the combination of angiogenic and osteoinductive to promote bone formation has emerged as a novel approach. 34 Additionally, the angiogenic effect of irisin has previously been described in vivo and in vitro using human umbilical vein endothelial cells.…”

“…Angiogenesis is a multi-step process involving ECs that is characterized by endothelial extracellular matrix remodelling, including initiation, migration, catheter formation, and differentiation. 59 When gene mutations accumulate and cause cancer, the solid tumour will form a highly vascularized state. These vessels provide oxygen and nutrition for the development or local spread of the tumour.…”

“…In regenerative dentistry, the key aspect related to advanced dental implants, bone and soft tissue regeneration using autologous grafts or xenografts, allografts, their integration, and acceptance does not depend only on the material. The host response also plays a very important role through its vascularization [ 34 ].…”
