Analyzing Local Government Capacity and Performance: Implications for Sustainable Development

Abstract: Local infrastructure development is a crucial goal for sustainable development, for which local governments take charge of developmental policies. This implies that the capacity of the local government determines the performance of the developmental policies—local infrastructure development. In this sense, this study investigated the impact of local government capacity, measured via the quantity and the quality of human and financial resource factors, on its performance. Moreover, the study examined which of t… Show more

“…2. Whilst there appear different aspects, an emphasis on economic growth and its relationship with social systems (Choi, 2021;Meadows, 1998;Pearce et al, 1989), the environment (Choi, 2021;Meadows, 1998), and future generations (D. “…Population, economic development and eco-system Hopwood et al (2005) "Sustainable development represents a shift in understanding of humanity's place on the planet, but it is open to interpretation of being anything from almost meaningless to of extreme importance to humanity" (p. 13). Choi (2021) "Sustainable development is recognized as an integrated approach that pursues the three core values of economy, society, and the environment" (p. 1) Reconciliation between economy, society, and the environment In brief, the term SD in the Brundtland report is recognised as an important landmark because it is the first institutional backing of the term SD, as well as being endorsed by an international organisation in the UN (Hoyos et al, 2010). Thus, this report has become a popular reference for scientific research, being widely credited in various fields (Ruggerio, 2021).…”

“…Government data contains huge resource value and technical value. However, the research mainly focuses on civil servants' behavior and perception [4], organizational culture [9], trust in government [7], institutional resources [8], and financial resources [2], etc. Existing research has not established a systematic analysis framework, the interpretation of government data governance performance is limited, and the interaction and combination conditions between various factors cannot be revealed.…”
