This study aims to examine the effects of digital science scrapbook on studentsâ€™ science visual literacy. Digital science scrapbook was designed to teach junior high school students, and the instrument was designed to measure the level of visual literacy before and after the treatment. This study employed a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The population was junior high school students. The convenience sampling method was chosen to carry out the pilot study on 25 students in SMP 9 Salatiga. The visual literacy course was based on the ACRL Visual Literacy Competency Standards. The differences in visual literacy levels were measured through 30 items of the visual literacy test. After conducting paired sample t-test on the data, differences between pretest and posttest were found. From the findings, significant differences in pretest and posttest scores were found. It can be concluded that digital science scrapbook is effective to train digital literacy in science. The novelty of this research is the use of digital science scrapbook on studentsâ€™ science visual literacy.

Gender representation in the textbook becomes a noticeable topic for many scholars and researchers since it is believed that the representation of female and male influence the learners in many ways. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find out how female and male characters are represented in listening dialogues from English textbooks in Cambodian secondary schools. The quantitative approach was used in this research study. Moreover, the researcher used descriptive statistical analysis as a tool to investigate the frequencies of women and men characters. The representations appeared in 11 randomly selected conversations in each chapter of the English textbook namely English for Cambodia Grade 7. This method is analyzed based on an adopted model developed by Tahriri & Moradpour (2014) which focuses on three dimensions of gender relation, subject position, and content categories. After analysis, the findings demonstrated that most of the conversations are male-female relations. Three subject positions are shown. Meanwhile, the gender characters countered in all dialogues showed slightly different between women and men. Regarding the content categories, six different categories are found. This study confirms gender bias in textbook that female characters are perceived and presented as being less than their male counterparts.

This study aims to critically analyze science textbooks to refine and improve the content and images of science textbooks. The goal of this research is to use document analysis to assess the reliability produced approximately in textbooks. Selected science textbooks are major instructional resources from which students receive information. The study follows a mixed method approach with a more qualitative part. The systematic comprehension and categorizations of images, illustrations, drawings, pictures and texts are required for a comprehensive study of graphic interpretations. In contemporary science textbooks, graphic illustrations play a significant role in grasping key concepts. This research finds that these resources and strategies of visual image text interpretation of these perspectives, photographs, fine-art drawings, illustrations, and posters have become fundamental teaching tools in science books. Further studies should be conducted on different books and different narratological aspects.
