Analysis of the NANDA-I taxonomy “maternal-fetal dyad” concept in high-risk pregnancy: integrative review

Abstract: Objective: to analyze the NANDA-I taxonomy “maternal-fetal dyad” concept in high-risk pregnancy. Method: an integrative literature review based on the Conceptual Analysis model proposed by Walker and Avant. It was conducted at PUBMED, CINAHL, SCOPUS, LILACS and SciELO, with the descriptors: Complications of pregnancy, Risk Factors, and Pregnancy, High-Risk (from 2008-2020). Result: the sample consisted of 44 articles, which identified two attributes and 21 antecedents of the concept. Conclusion: concept ana… Show more

“…Other diagnoses were rarely mentioned by the authors of the studies included in the review: risk of impaired fatherhood or motherhood, ineffective health management, insufficient knowledge, interrupted family processes, the risk of disturbed mother-fetus dyad, and the risk of constipation. These diagnoses align with a review on high-risk pregnancies ( 42) and the concept of the mother-fetus dyad (43).…”

“…When identifying risk factors, populations at risk, and conditions associated to the ND in the concept analysis (11) , a previous phase in this study, it was necessary to check these items' relevance with the experts. The NANDA-I Taxonomy is emphasized not to include elements focused on biopsychosocial aspects.…”

“…The second contained the elements of nursing diagnosis Risk for disturbed maternal-fetal dyad to be evaluated according to their relevance. These elements, obtained in the previous phase (concept analysis), were risk factors, populations at risk, and associated conditions (11) , as well as title, definition, class, and domain, whose agreement was to be evaluated. The experts have then analyzed the elements' relevance through a Likert scale: 1=completely disagree; 2=partially disagree; 3=indifferent 4= partially agree; 5=completely agree.…”

“…It is defined as "at risk for disruption of the symbiotic maternal-fetal dyad as a result of comorbidity or pregnancy-related conditions" (Herdman et al, 2021). This ND can be identified among high-risk pregnant women, as they are more susceptible to gestational risks, potentially leading to unfavorable outcomes for the mother-fetus dyad (Gomes et al, 2020;Mendes et al, 2021). NDs must be clearly defined and present elements that favor the nurses' diagnostic reasoning and clinical judgment for this condition to be accurately identified (Lopes & Silva, 2016).…”
