Analysis of the Climatic Factors Influence on the Overhead Transmission Lines Reliability

Abstract: In this study, the influence of climatic factors on overhead transmission lines reliability in Russia was discussed. A review of the possible impacts of climate change is provided. Using the example of an electric grid company providing electricity in the Republic of Bashkortostan some reliability targets associated with the impacts of weather events were calculated: the number of power outages, the failure rate of 1 km of overhead transmission lines and the outage time. From the calculations it was determined… Show more

“…The overhead ground wire is mainly used to reduce lightning overvoltage and sometimes for data transmission, which is an important part of the power system. Due to the complex and variable operating environment of overhead ground wire, the probability of a defect in the overhead ground wire structure is extremely high [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. The axial tension of the overhead ground wire structure will have a large stress concentration at the defects’ places.…”

“…The improvement of thermal insulation of heat transporting pipes can be related to both external heating networks and heating systems inside the building. The amount of heat losses depends on the climate in which the heating network is located [7], [8] and the operating parameters of the heating networks, such as the temperature of the heating medium [9]- [12].…”
