Analysis of housing models of modern single-stage universal gear reducers

Abstract: Abstract. Universal gear reducers are quite simple products, so today there are many manufacturers around the world that produce this kind of reducers. Their connecting dimensions and shape are not defined by the standard, so there is a large number of solutions. The most of manufacturers produce gear reducers with connecting dimensions and axis height, usually the same like the biggest manufacturers do (mainly company SEW), because they want to provide interchangeability of their gear reducers. It is interest… Show more

“…But soon they increased axis heights in order to increase gear ratio, and now reducers are produced with axis height in a standard row R20/2. In the area of the most used gearbox sizes, some manufacturers produce so-called intermediate sizes with the axis heights in row R20 [6,7]. In recent time, manufacturers of gear reducers try to achieve the same axis heights in order to ensure greater exchangeability of their gear units.…”

“…In that way, the cost of both bearings on the output shaft will be smaller, mounting and dismounting will be much simpler and the shaft is allowed to be expanded properly when heated. [7,8,9] The helical gear should be positioned between the bearings, which ensure greater shaft rigidity. It is preferable the gear is positioned in the middle between the bearings to provide as even as possible the contact between two gear flanks.…”

“…It follows that single-stage gear reducer should be produced with high gear ratio (up to 15 [1,7]) in order to cover as large as possible range of gear ratios of two-stage gear unit.…”

“…In the case of sand casting of the gear housing elements, a number of requirements arising from good practice in the casting process and subsequent machining operations are recommended to be followed. This includes the requirements as follows [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]:…”
