This paper aims to present the preliminary results of power losses due to the trapping and squeezing of an incompressible fluid between teeth spaces in geared transmissions during the meshing phase. When the operating speeds are very high, these losses become important and jet lubrication is used. Since this type of losses involves complex hydrodynamic phenomena that are difficult to describe in analytical formulations, a new approximate numerical model to predict power 5318 Abdelilah Lasri et al.losses due to the trapped and squeezed fluid for spur gears was developed. Besides, a numerical tool in the geometric study is developed to determine leakage surfaces and fluid volume variation between the meshing gear teeth. This geometric study will also be used to predict the pressure through simplifying assumptions. Finally, the influence of the design parameters and operating conditions on pressure are presented.
