Show more

“…According to Vieira et al (2009), the two effects together may also be important in the genetic control of the disease. Additive and non-additive effects, respectively, were also observed for B. maydis (Kumar et al, 2016) and P. polysora (Colombo et al, 2014), but the additive effects are reported to be more influential in most studies focused on the inheritance of resistance to these diseases.…”

“…Resistance to SR is governed by a few genes with the greatest resistance effect, and resistance is attributed to incomplete dominant or dominant alleles (Holland, Uhr, Jeffers, & Goodman, 1998, Brewbaker et al, 2011. These favorable genes may be inherited by future generations (Colombo, Vaz-de-Melo, Taubinger, Tavares, & Silva, 2014). Considering the above determination, that is, resistance is ruled by a few genes and expressed in the presence of dominant alleles, lines identified as resistant in the present study can be considered as candidate parental lines that are promising for the incorporation of rust resistance from simple crossings.…”

“…This rust-inducing fungus reproduces abundantly; under ideal conditions, even a small amount of inoculum can trigger devastating epidemics (Godoy et al, 2000). The use of pathogen-resistant varieties has been indicated as one of the most efficient and economical control strategies (Colombo et al, 2014). However, the use of genetic resistance in popcorn, especially against P. polyssora, is still rare (Mafra et al, 2018).…”
