An islanded microgrid energy management controller validated by using hardware-in-the-loop emulators

Abstract: A novel microgrid emulator used to test multiple microgrid configurations and energy management control strategies is presented. The system includes Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) emulators for geothermal and biogas energy sources. It also includes actual photovoltaic energy together with a lead acid battery bank for storage and it is controlled by a two level control system. The control system consists of a primary level voltage-reactive power and frequency-active power and a secondary level energy management alg… Show more

“…Mazidi et al 87 presented the reserve scheduling of an islanded MG. Misaghian et al 88 also used the stochastic programming for revenue maximization, bidirectional power flow minimization between local grid and main grid, and scheduling in a grid‐connected MG. Nosratabadi et al 89 used the constraints of competitive markets when scheduling is considered in competition market. In the islanded MG of Petreus et al 90 tried to obtain optimal schedule of MG components by using simulation. Shen et al 91 presented a stochastic optimal EM study to maximize the profit.…”

“…A vitality framework that joins numerous vitality resources is known as a hybrid renewable energy system (HRES). By and large, utilizing such frameworks prompts higher unwavering quality and lower activity cost than on account of utilizing just a single vitality source [12]. An Energy Management System (EMS) gives the procedures and frameworks expected to fuse vitality contemplations just as the vitality the executives into everyday tasks as a feature of an authoritative methodology for improving vitality execution [13].…”

“…Since the variability of different RESs often derives from complementary weather conditions, a stable and reliable power supply cannot be provided by a single RES [13]. One solution is to use hybrid RES systems that help deliver continuous power supply and mitigate the undesirable effects of RES variability through the integration of diverse RESs [11].…”
