This is a report from a one-day second international workshop on "Information Systems in Distributed Environments" (ISDE), which was organized in conjunction with the OnTheMove Federated Conferences & Workshops (OTM 2010) at HersonissosCrete, Greece, on October 26, 2010. The main focus of this workshop was to provide a venue for the discussion of challenges related to the development, operation, and maintenance of distributed information systems, and their creation in the context of global development projects. Further dissemination of research results will lead to an improvement of distributed information system development and deployment across the globe.

An AI framework and a metamodel for collaborative situations: Application to crisis management contexts

Identifying, designing, deploying and maintaining accurate collaborative networks of organizations (e.g. responders in a crisis situation) are key activities in nowadays ecosystems. However, there is a lack regarding formal approaches dedicated to characterize collaborative networks of organizations. Formal descriptions of collaborative situations, that could be used, transformed, computed and exploited would be of great benefit for the quality of such collaborative networks. This article presents a model‐based AI framework for describing collaborative situations and the associated formal metamodel dedicated to be instantiated to characterize collaborative situations in a very wide range of application domains. This metamodel (describing collaborative situation between organizations) is structured according to four complementary dimensions: the context (social, physical and geographical environment), the partners (the involved organizations, their capabilities resources and relations), the objectives (the aims of the network, the goals to be the achieved and the risks to avoid, etc.) and the behaviour (the collaborative processes to be implemented by the partners to achieve the objectives in the considered context). Besides, this metamodel can be extended for some precise application domains. This article focuses on this mechanism in the specific context of crisis management.

Abstract. Nowadays users access information services at any time and in any place. Providing an intelligent user interface which adapts dynamically to the users' requirements is essential in information systems. Conventionally, systems are constructed at the design time according to an initial structure and requirements. The effect of the passage of time and changes in users, applications and environment is that the systems cannot always satisfy the user's requirements. In this paper a methodology is proposed to allow mashup user interfaces to be intelligent and evolve over time by using computational techniques like machine learning over huge amounts of heterogeneous data, known as big data, and model-driven engineering techniques as model transformations. The aim is to generate new ways of adapting the interface to the user's needs, using information about user's interaction and the environment.
