An extensive catalogue of early-type galaxies in the nearby Universe

Abstract: We present a catalogue of 1715 early-type galaxies from the literature, spanning the luminosity range from faint dwarf spheroidal galaxies to giant elliptical galaxies. The aim of this catalogue is to be one of the most comprehensive and publicly available collections of data on early-type galaxies. The emphasis in this catalogue lies on dwarf elliptical galaxies, for which some samples with detailed data have been published recently. For almost all of the early-type galaxies included in it, this catalogue con… Show more

“…This implies that the effective radius of its population of 10 GCs is r e = 3.1 kpc, the stellar body of the galaxy has r e ≈ 2.2 kpc and its absolute V-band magnitude is M V = −15.4 mag, corresponding to a luminosity L V = 1.1 × 10 8 L . We furthermore assume (like van Dokkum et al 2018b) that the mass-to-light ratio of the stellar population is M * /L V = 2, while spectroscopy suggests a slightly lower value of 1.6 (Dabringhausen & Fellhauer 2016). These values for M * /L V are in any case well consistent with typical dwarf galaxies in this luminosity range (see e.g.…”

“…We find that the CIR of ellipticals and classical bulges in the sample also shows an anti-correlation (r = -0.79, p > 99.99 percent) with the half-light radii of the galaxies adopted from the catalogue of ETGs compiled by Dabringhausen & Fellhauer (2016) and is shown in Fig. 2(a).…”

“…Spheroid masses have been adopted from Kormendy & Ho (2013). Stellar ages, total dynamical masses and half-light radii have been taken from Dabringhausen & Fellhauer (2016). The nuclear radio luminosity used in the analysis comes from Nyland et al (2016).…”

“…The NUV magnitudes are corrected for Galactic extinction following Wyder et al (2007) with E(B -V) values from the Schlegel et al (1998) dust maps. For ATLAS 3D galaxies the extinction corrected SDSS r-band magnitudes are taken the catalogue of nearby ETGs (Dabringhausen & Fellhauer 2016). The stellar masses for the ATLAS 3D galaxies are also taken from Dabringhausen & Fellhauer (2016).…”
