Students strongly bonded to the educational institution are more motivated to study and less likely to present behavioral problems and/or juvenile delinquency. This study's objective was to verify the existence of variations in school bonding among different groups of adolescents and identify the most problematic aspects among adolescents in conflict with the law from the perspective of Marc LeBlanc's Social and Personal Control Theory of Deviant Behavior. The 60 adolescents participating in the study responded to the Portuguese version of the School Scale, part of the Measuring Adolescent Social and Personal Adaptation Scale. The results reveal that the level of school bonding differentiated the groups, showing that offenders who dropped out of school obtained the worst indicators of school bonding when considering investment and commitment levels, as well as attachment to teachers.Keywords: adolescent in conflict with the law, schools, school adjustment Vinculação Escolar de Adolescentes em Conflito com a LeiResumo: Alunos fortemente vinculados à instituição escolar apresentam maior motivação para os estudos e menor probabilidade de manifestação de problemas comportamentais e/ou infracionais. Este estudo objetivou verificar a existência de variações na vinculação escolar em grupos distintos de adolescentes, de modo a localizar os aspectos mais problemáticos àqueles em situação de conflito com a lei, na perspectiva da Teoria da Regulação Social e Pessoal da Conduta Divergente na Adolescência, de Marc LeBlanc. Os 60 adolescentes participantes da pesquisa responderam à versão em português da Escala Escola pertencente ao Measuring Adolescent Social and Personal Adaptation. “…Para finalizar, tornou-se notória, com base nos estudos apresentados, a centralidade da variável evasão escolar nos achados concernindo adolescentes em conflito com a lei, uma vez que essa se constitui em um dos preditores mais importantes da conduta infracional na adolescência, além de encontrarse associada ao desenvolvimento de outros problemas, tais como a redução das chances para obtenção de sucesso profissional em profissões que exigem maior preparo e qualificação (Blomberg et al, 2011;Blomberg et al, 2012;Chui & Chan, 2012;Dembo et al, 2012;Geib et al, 2011;Hirschfield, 2009;Mallett, 2010;Shandra & Hogan, 2012;Zhang, 2011). ResumoTrata-se de uma revisão sistemática da literatura nacional e internacional norteada pelo objetivo de investigar a relação entre escolarização e conduta infracional na adolescência. Foram consultadas duas bases de dados (Web of Science e LILACS) e a biblioteca Scielo, no período de 2009 a 2013. Os resultados oriundos da análise dos 25 artigos recuperados foram sintetizados em cinco categorias temáticas e evidenciaram a complexidade da interface existente entre os temas investigados, denotando a existência de uma natureza sequencial e complementar entre as trajetórias de desenvolvimento pessoal, social e escolar relacionadas à conduta infracional. Como ficou evidenciado que uma experiência escolar negativa se configura como um marco importante para a entrada ou para o agravamento da conduta delituosa na adolescência. Ressalta-se a necessidade de realização de mais estudos no contexto nacional, em razão da escassez de produções desenvolvidas acerca dessa temática no contexto sociocultural brasileiro. There is little known about Hong Kong juvenile offenders on probation. The purpose of this study was to compare Hong Kong juvenile violent with non‐violent probationers on static demographic and psychological variables. The study comprised 109 male juvenile probationers aged 14–20 years (M = 16.97, SD = 1.44) in community transitional housing; 34 were adjudicated for violent offenses, while 75 were non‐violent. The Rosenberg Self‐Esteem Scale (RSES), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), Social Bonding Scale‐Theft (SBS‐T), Social Bonding Scale‐Violent Crime (SBS‐VC), Positive and Negative Affect Scales (PANAS), Impulsiveness Scale‐Short Form (IS‐SF) and CRIME‐PICS II were administered to measure self‐esteem, life satisfaction, social bond, positive and negative affect, impulsivity, pro‐offending attitudes, and self‐perceived life problems. Data on onset age of delinquent behavior, age of first adjudication, number of prior adjudications, and frequency of self‐reported delinquency in the past year were also collected. t‐tests were consistent with significant differences for violent offenders including higher self‐esteem (p < 0.05). Non‐violent offenders self‐reported significantly more theft (p < 0.05) with a tendency to deny victim hurt more often (p < 0.01); 76.5% of violent offenders self‐reported both violent and non‐violent crime, while 58.7% of non‐violent offenders reported only non‐violent crime. For violent and non‐violent offenders, the onset of delinquency was inversely related to the frequency of self‐reported delinquency. Using ordinary least‐squares (OLS) regression analyses, self‐anticipated violent reoffending risk was predicted by age of onset, frequency of self‐reported delinquency, social bond (inversely), and impulsivity, while non‐violent reoffending risk was predicted by the number of prior convictions and self‐reported delinquency. Only two psychological correlates, social bond and impulsivity, were related to violent delinquency; interventions are suggested. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
