Abstract: In this article, response surface methodology (RSM) has been applied to simultaneously optimize the tensile and impact strength of polypropylene (PP)/nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR)/halloysite nanotubes (HNTs)/maleic anhydride (MA)‐grafted‐PP nanocomposites. Three levels of material parameters, including NBR (10, 20, and 30 wt%), HNTs (1, 3, and 5 wt%), and PP‐g‐MA (3, 9, and 15 wt%) as compatibilizers were used to design the experiments according to Box‐Behnken design. In order to investigate the morphology of… Show more

“…More specifically, surface response methodology is a set of various mathematical/statistical procedures for the optimization of response variables [ 62 ]. Thus, response surface methodology has attracted interest in various Chemical Engineering processes such as materials’ development [ 63 , 64 ], wastewater treatment [ 65 ] etc. A plot of the response variable versus two independent variables is the graphical representation of the response surface [ 62 ].…”

“…The small slope of this increase can be due to the formation of tire powder lumps at high weight percentages and its adverse effect on the agglomeration of CaCO 3 NPs due to a decrease in the content of the PP matrix. 1 Concerning the composite with 30 wt.% tire powder, an increase in the weight percentage of CaCO 3 to 7.5 wt.% elevated the damping ratio to 7.44, 4.99, and 3.37 for the first, second, and third modes, respectively. This increase occurred at a mild slope in the specimen containing 10 wt.% CaCO 3 NPs, decreasing the damping ratio, which can be due to the effect of nanoparticles on reducing the rubber phase size at low contents of NPs.…”

“…Based on Figure 5(b), although CaCO 3 NPs exhibited a good distribution in the matrix, their dispersion was slightly weak, which can be attributed to the adverse effect of tire powder on the proper distribution of CaCO 3 NPs in the matrix. Nakhaei et al, 1 concluded that high amounts of NBR rubber reduced the good dispersion of HNTs nanoparticles due to the larger size of rubber particles and poor dispersion.…”
