An analysis of the impact of agricultural tractor seat cushion materials to the level of exposure to vibration

Abstract: During everyday operations with tractors, drivers are exposed to harmful effects of various factors. In addition to unfavourable temperature and humidity, dust and noise, one of the factors harmful to driver's health is vibrations. They come from the tractor engine and from the roughness of the ground and are transferred to the cab and through the seat to the body of the driver. In case of high level magnitude vibrations and a long period of exposure to them, many health problems occur. The harmful effect of t… Show more

“…Occupants (drivers or passengers) using various transportation means like motorbikes, cars, subways, aircraft, ferries, levitated vehicles, and high-speed bullet trains expose to unaccountable vibrations during their daily life transportation. These vibrations may be passed to the complete human body or to specific segments/parts of the body via a supporting structure such as a car seat, tractor, or ship 1 . This transmitted vibration is called whole-body vibration (WBV).…”

“…4 Drivers feel discomfort at low-frequency vibration, however, the appropriate seat design prevents injuries and discomfort for a short duration. 5 The ride comfort is strongly influenced by seat pressure distribution, sitting posture, amplitude, frequency of vibration, type of suspension, [6][7][8] properties of seat. 9 In various farming tasks, tractor drivers experience discomfort at lowfrequency vibration.…”

“…10 Although, the experimental investigation of static and dynamic seating comfort are the true feelings of the tested occupants. 5,6 But it is unethical to put the life of the occupant in danger. The experiment on real human beings may cause critical damage to the human body while collecting real-time vibration data.…”

“…Barone et al 7 reported results of experiments carried out for five cars of different categories moving with different speeds and analysed ride comfort using frequency weightings. Furthermore, an analysis of exposure to vibration for a driver's seat of an agricultural tractor was presented by Cvetanovic et al 8 Vehicle handling is one of the criteria related to driving safety, which can be evaluated for steady-state or transient response of a vehicle as was summarized by Crolla et al 9 The steady-state response is commonly tested for a vehicle moving with increasing speed along a constant radius circle. In the case of transient response, various driving test manoeuvres are used, e.g.…”
