“…Few studies of animals and humans with CD showed morphological alterations in the tongue during the acute and chronic disease phases. Studies on the inflammatory infiltrates in the skeletal muscle (Monteon et al 1996), disordered parenchyma with lower number of acinar cells and ducts , and severe lymphoplasmocytic infiltrates were additional findings Ramirez et al 1994) in animal models infected by T. cruzi which have been reported in the literature.…”

“…The Mexican Trypanosoma cruzi isolate Ninoa (nonpathogenic) was obtained from a human patient in the acute phase of disease and used in part of this work (43). This isolate belongs to the T. cruzi I lineage and was maintained by sequential culture in liver infusion tryptose medium (Difco, Detroit, MI), Triatoma pallidipennis infection, and murine passages as described previously (18).…”

“…The following eight T. cruzi strains were studied: three strains isolated from Triatoma pallidipennis (CGH2, CGH4, and CGH6 strains), two from Triatoma longipennis (CGH1 and CGH3 strains), one from Triatoma picturata (KR1 strain), one by xenodiagnosis from a patient in the acute phase of disease (NINOA strain) 21 , and one isolated from a patient with the chronic cardiac form (INC-5 strain) 22 (Table 1).…”
