-We explored the relationships between diet and morphology in 30 fish species from forested tropical streams of the Bolivian Amazon. These species were first assigned to eight broad trophic guilds based on stomach contents analysis. The relationships between diet and morphology were then examined using Redundancy Analysis, after having checked for potential phylogenetical effects. Results show that, independently of any phylogenetic constraints, some of the trophic guilds could be grossly predicted from few relevant morphological attributes (i.e. relative intestinal length, standard length and mouth orientation) and thus suggest a significant link between diet and morphology. In other words, species having similar diet tend to converge to some extent on some morphological attributes. This link was nevertheless rather weak, suggesting that even if morphology may set limits to patterns of resource use, these limits are broad enough to allow fishes changing their choice of prey resources to respond to local biotic and/or abiotic conditions. Key words: Diet / Morphology / Phylogeny / Convergence / Tropical streams / Fishes / Bolivia Résumé -Relations entre le régime alimentaire et les caractéristiques morphologiques des peuplements de poissons de petits cours d'eau forestiers de l'Amazonie bolivienne. Nous avons analysé les relations entre le régime alimentaire et la morphologie de 30 espèces de poissons présentes dans de petits cours d'eau forestiers de l'Amazonie bolivienne. Après une analyse de leurs contenus stomacaux, les 30 espèces ont été réparties, dans un premier temps, dans huit grandes guildes trophiques. Dans un deuxième temps, après avoir analysé les éventuelles contraintes phylogénétiques, nous avons examiné, par analyse multivariée, les relations entre le régime alimentaire et la morphologie des espèces. Les résultats montrent que, indépendamment de la phylogénie, certaines des guildes trophiques peuvent être prédites d'après quelques attributs morphologiques (i.e. longueur relative de l'intestin, longueur standard et orientation de la bouche). Cela étant, ce lien entre régime alimentaire et caractéristiques morphologiques reste relativement faible, ce qui suggère que même si la morphologie limite les possibilités d'utilisation des ressources, cette limite est assez large pour permettre aux espèces de s'adapter à différentes conditions biotiques ou abiotiques locales.

Anurans in an open cerrado area in the municipality of Borebi, São Paulo state, Southeastern Brazil: habitat use, abundance and seasonal variation. The anuran fauna of this biome is not very rich when compared with others biomes, but there are a large number of endemic species. Here we present a list of anuran species recorded in a pond in an open cerrado area in the municipality of Borebi, middle-western region of the São Paulo state, Southeastern Brazil. For 24 months (2008 and 2009), we characterized the distribution of species on the studied pond and seasonal variation of species occurrence. We recorded 27 species from six families: Bufonidae (two species), Cycloramphidae (one species), Hylidae (13 species), Leiuperidae (four species), Leptodactylidae (five species), and Microhylidae (two species). Species richness and abundance were related to rainfall. Dendropsophus minutus vocalized through the year, while Rhinella ornata and Odontophrynus americanus were restricted to the dry and cold period (April -August). The other species had their period of higher activity during the warm and rainy months (September -March). The distribution of species within the pond was related to the type of vegetation and to the variation on water volume of the pond, principally during dry periods. Anurans richness and abundance at the pond can be a result of the absence of predatory fish, the different types of available microhabitats and the absence of other water bodies nearby. Small streams are important components of the landscape in terra firme forests in central Amazonia and harbor a large number of fish species. Nevertheless, the lack of a common sampling protocol in studies of this ichthyofauna hinders comparisons among available results. This study evaluates how the length of stream reach sampled affects estimates of local fish species density in 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd order streams, and proposes a mean minimum sampling length that best approximates the absolute number of species in a given stream segment. We sampled three streams in the Biological Dynamics of Forest Fragments Project's study sites, between May and August 2004. At each stream, one 1 st order, one 2 nd order, and one 3 rd order segment was sampled. We sampled five 20-m reaches in each stream segment. Three to four people collected along each reach for 45 to 60 minutes. We used Jaccard's coefficient to estimate the similarity of species composition among stream reaches and segments. Estimates of species richness were obtained with Jackknife 1 and Bootstrap algorithms and species accumulation curves. We used simple linear regressions to look for relationships between species density and fish abundance and between species density and the volume of 100-m stream segments. Species density in 1 st order stream reaches was slightly higher than in 2 nd and 3 rd order stream reaches, whereas fish abundance was apparently higher in 3 rd order reaches. Similarity in fish species composition between 20-m reaches was low for all studied streams. Species density values in pooled 100-m stream segments represented 71.4% to 94.1% of the estimated values for these streams. Species density showed a direct relationship both with volume of the sampled stream segment and fish abundance. It seems plausible that larger streams contain a higher number of microhabitat types, which allow for the presence of more fish species per stream length. Based on the values of asymptotes and equations for species accumulation curves, the mean minimum sampling length that best estimates the absolute number of species in a stream segment is 180 m ± 20 sd for 1 st order segments; 213 m ± 23 sd for 2 nd order segments, and 253 m ± 30 sd for 3 rd order stream segments.Pequenos igarapés são componentes importantes da paisagem das florestas de terra firme da Amazônia Central e abrigam um grande número de espécies de peixes.
