Objetivo: describir las categorías que hacen parte de los factores causales de un esquema teórico que emergió durante la investigación: Conviviendo con la ambivalencia en las interacciones de cuidado. Método: cualitativa con enfoque en la teoría fundamentada. Se utilizaron técnicas como la observación, las entrevistas informales y formales a 20 pacientes, 19 auxiliares de enfermería y 8 enfermeras que laboran en diferentes centros quirúrgicos de segundo nivel del Valle de Aburrá. Resultados: se presentan las categorías relacionadas con los sentimientos y las emociones del paciente y del personal de enfermería al ingreso al centro quirúrgico, que hacen parte de los factores causales. Los pacientes desean la normalidad porque sienten molestias no solo físicas sino emocionales, pero también sienten ambivalencia frente al procedimiento quirúrgico. Desde el equipo de enfermería hay una disposición al cuidado porque las enfermeras se identifican en el trabajo para y con seres humanos y se responsabilizan del cuidado del paciente en este periodo. Conclusiones: el equipo de enfermería en cirugía debe estar consciente de la importancia de las dimensiones emocional, social y humana del cuidado y poner especial atención al temor y la ansiedad a los cuales están expuestos los pacientes; por tanto, el cuidado humano en este escenario es vital al ver al otro como un sujeto de atención en su contexto, con sus creencias y valores, aceptándolo tal cual es.

It seems that dealing with concrete things makes the patients turn to themselves and thus the concern that something can go wrong during the surgery appears.…”

Objective: This study was to assess the feasibility of educational intervention nusing printed materials and the appropriateness of the instruments chosen to assess the efficacy of the intervention in patients undergoing orthognathic surgery. Methods: Nonrandomized pilot study was conducted with eight patients. In the preoperative period, an educational intervention using printed material and the application of instruments for data collection was carried out; in the postoperative period, only data collection was carried out. Friedman, Wilcoxon, McNemar and Rasch's statistical tests were applied in order to assess the variables and the instrument. Results: Significant findings with respect to trait anxiety (p = .016), lower difficulty of patients to perform oral hygiene (p = .008), mild pain (p = .025), and moderate pain (p = .046). For the knowledge test, Rasch analysis showed that the model did not fit, since easy questions were stacked in the lower limit of the map, which showed the need to reformulate some questions. Conclusions: The intervention was consistent, but it can only be confirmed as effective through a research with a control group. It was observed that the use of brochures could improve the management of the signs and symptoms experienced by the patients in the postoperative period.

Abstract: This study aims at giving theoretical aspects of the anxiety and discussing about the difficulty faced by nurses to evaluate the emotional state of the patient, considering that the theoretical basis of the nurse is not enough to interfere in this situation.
