Abstract: Abstract. Unlike manufacturing technology for semiconductors and printed circuit boards, the market for traditional micro assembly lacks a clear public roadmap. More agile manufacturing strategies are needed in an environment in which dealing with change becomes a rule instead of an exception. In this paper, an attempt is made to bring production with universal micro assembly cells to the next level. This is realised by placing a larger number of cells, called Equiplets, in a "Grid". Equiplets are compact and l… Show more

“…Finally the product agent will embed itself in the product to continue its life in the remaining parts of the life-cycle of the product. The research done so far for this agent-based work distribution or task execution resulted from earlier research on agile production in a grid [1]. We used this approach is a model for work distribution among human workers.…”

“…The concept that will be explained in the next section resulted from previous research on agile production in a grid of production machines called equiplets [1]. This approach turned out to be a good solution for certain situations.…”

“…In (Puik and Moergestel, 2010) and (Moergestel et al, 2010) a manufacturing system based on a grid of cheap and versatile production units called equiplets is described. This grid is capable of agile multiparallel production.…”

“…On one hand, time to market pushes revenues backwards and erodes market penetration. However, on the other hand, when the development risks of a product have not yet been eliminated, early market introduction leads to bad performance of products and dissatisfied users [2,3]. The development risks can be addressed in a structured manner by the application of effective methods for systems engineering (engineering design).…”
