Adzuki beans (Vigna angularis) seed quality under several drying conditions

Abstract: This study analyzed the drying process and the seed quality of adzuki beans (Vigna angularis). Grains of adzuki beans, with moisture content of 1.14 (decimal dry basis) at harvest and dried until the moisture content of 0.11 (decimal dry basis.) were used. Drying was done in an experimental drier maintened at controlled temperatures of 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70 ºC and relative humidity of 52.0, 28.0, 19.1, 13.1, and 6.8%, respectively. Physiological and technological seed quality was evaluated using the germinati… Show more

“…On the other hand, changes in germination responses among different seeds of same species may be also due to seed maturity stage when it was harvested or dispersed by motherplants (Lamarca et al, 2013), as well as post-harvest processing and conservation (Pessoa et al, 2010;Resende et al, 2012).…”

“…Por esse motivo, há claramente a necessidade de redução da umidade para preservação da qualidade fisiológica das sementes, impedindo a deterioração (PESKE et al, 2013;CARVALHO et al, 2016). No entanto, quando realizada sem o devido cuidado, tanto a secagem quanto o armazenamento podem ter um impacto negativo na qualidade da semente, afetando imediatamente, por exemplo, sua germinação e vigor (RESENDE et al, 2012;FARIA et al, 2014).…”

“…Its goal is to reduce the water content of the seeds to levels adequate to storage, preserving them from physical and chemical changes induced by excess water (RESENDE et al, 2012). However, because the removal of water during seed drying can cause chemical, physical and biological changes, the drying conditions must be monitored so that all possible effects on seed quality have to be considered (JOSÉ et al, 2005;ROSA et al, 2005).…”
