Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of the Cavernous Region-Case Report-

Abstract: A 62-year-old Japanese male patient presented with right oculomotor, abducens, and trigeminal nerve disturbances. Neuroimaging revealed a right middle cranial fossa mass lesion with the characteristics of trigeminal schwannoma. The patient underwent a right temporal craniotomy for gross total resection. Histological examination confirmed a metastasis of adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC). After the operation, no evidence of the primary lesion could be found. “…It is known that ACC can be responsible for several neurological features, including olfactory hypoesthesia (2), visual disturbance (18), neurogenic ophthalmoplegia (2, 5, 6), trigeminal neuralgia and numbness (2,5,6), unilateral facial, glossopharyngeal, vagal, accessory and hypoglossal nerve palsies (6), cavernous sinus syndrome (18,19), Horner's syndrome (6,(19)(20)(21), and pituitary dysfunction (18).
