Adaptasi Lintas Budaya: Menjelajahi Ketahanan Komunikatif Mahasiswa Internasional Selama Masa Pendidikan di Madura

Abstract

The present study explores the use of fiction to examine the concept of resilience, whilst adapting to the context of the Madura landscape. In this study, the literature on cross-cultural adaptation and the theoretical framework on cultural resilience is examined. This is done in order to challenge previous models of acculturation that focused on stress and coping. The study then reconceptualises resilience as a discursive practice that enables individuals to thrive in new cultural contexts. In order to achieve the objective of this study, a total of 31 international students were selected for in-depth interviews. The results of the study indicated that the four main factors contributing to the resilience of the participants were as follows: sociocultural and linguistic barriers, structural barriers, and difficulties in establishing relationships. The issue of managing identities is one that is intricately linked to the concept of resilience, which is defined as the ability to overcome adversity or challenges. In addressing these challenges, an alternative logical framework is employed to interpret cultural diversity. The promotion of productive actions, the construction of networks, and the maintenance of collaborative relationships are pivotal in establishing an international identity and incorporating other identities to facilitate collective action. The present study aims to expand upon the most recent theoretical concepts pertaining to the field of construction durability, whilst concomitantly offering practical implications for the adaptation of international building standards.
