“…[79] In the Pannonian basin of the eastern Alps and Carpathians, Royden [1988Royden [ , 1993, Mann et al [1995], and Martin [2007] summarize a history of collisions and changing direction of plate convergence between the Pannonian plate and Eurasia that leads to the fragmentation of the Pannonian plate and opening of the extensional Pannonian back arc area ( Figure A16). Each terminal collision event resulted in a shift in the direction of plate convergence and progressive fragmentation of the Pannonian plate during its subsequent reorientation.…”

“…[80] The interior of the Pannonian basin is segmented by strike-slip faults and deep basins that accommodate anticlockwise rotation of a northern interior block and clockwise rotation of a southern interior block. Mann et al [1995] and Mann [1997] relate the highly transtensional nature of strike-slip faults bounding microplates in the back arc area to large-scale rotation of the elongate bounding blocks as the main focus of deformation shifted in a clockwise direction around the arc. Royden [1988] has noted the striking development of Pannonian Basin extension in relation to surrounding orogenic events, and Martin [2007] has correlated the tectonic rotations here to pinning points (collisions) in the outer zone of thrust faulting ( Figure A16).…”

“…La zona de falla Enriquillo es una estructura E-O que atraviesa la parte sur de la isla de La Española (Mann et al, 1995). Esta zona acomoda desplazamientos siniestros paralelos al límite de placas, y presenta un plano de falla subvertical.…”

“…Es una de las fallas inversas que yacen bajo las montañas en Haití (Mann et al, 1995). Se incluye en la zona de transición "intraplaca" de la región de la Cordillera donde su geometría no se conoce bien (Maneker et al, 2008).…”
