Active Force Control Applied to Spray Boom Structure

Abstract: Distribution pattern of spray boom in fields is affected by several parameters which one of the important reasons is horizontal and vertical vibrations because of unevenness surfaces. Spray boom movements lead to decrease of spread efficiency and crop yield. Generally, active suspension is employed to control and attenuate the vibration of sprayer booms because these suspensions reduce the high frequency vibration of spray booms thanks to irregularities soil. In this research, a proportional-integral-derivativ… Show more

“…Hence, actuating force can be measured simply by force transducers, and accelerometer can provide the value of a′. The estimated mass may be given by assuming a perfect model, crude approximation [25,34,35], or intelligent method [29]. In other words, if all parameters have been obtained successfully, the resulting estimated force from equation (5) would result in a stable and robust performance of the proposed control system [28].…”

“…The AFC approach was primarily used for vibration control by Hewit et al [20] to control motion of a flexible manipulator. Furthermore, the AFC integrated with conventional controller was employed in active suspension systems of vehicles [19,[21][22][23] though it has been applied to roll vibration cancellation of a spray boom [24][25][26][27]. In addition, AFC was utilized in trajectory control of a mobile robot [28].…”

“…These chemical sprayers are normally used on fields to spray chemicals as a means of yield manage. Chemical is applied by farmers broadly on conventional agriculture process as this method requires less labour and distribution is simple [2]. Excessive agro-chemicals are being used to improve crop production to meet the food security challenge with growing population.…”

“…As previously mentioned, crude approximation technique and intelligent method based on IL have been used to compute the estimated inertia for the spray boom suspension system (Tahmasebi et al, 2012(Tahmasebi et al, , 2013a). In the former, through a trialand-error approach, different estimated inertia values were tried and tested in the simulation loop to find the best responses of the system.…”

“…Also, to the author knowledge, there is no available literature on the application of AFC approach to control the unwanted vibration of a spray boom directly. Two simulation works on the application of AFC scheme to control roll motion of spray boom incorporating crude approximation and IL were described by Tahmasebi et al (2012Tahmasebi et al ( , 2013a.…”
