Abstract:The interactions between two or three hydrogen halide molecules and the same number of water moieties are investigated through a systematic exploration of the corresponding potential energy surfaces using a stochastic methodology in conjunction with density functional theory computations. Our results indicate that HF, the weakest acid in the series, is partially dissociated. Similarly, HCl, HBr, and HI undergo dissociation in the presence of three, two, and two water molecules, respectively. The decrease in th… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
