Accelerometer-based assessment of physical activity within the Fun For Wellness online behavioral intervention: protocol for a feasibility study

Abstract: Background Fun For Wellness (FFW) is an online behavioral intervention designed to promote growth in well-being and physical activity by providing capability-enhancing learning opportunities to participants. The conceptual framework for the FFW intervention is guided by self-efficacy theory. Evidence has been provided for the efficacy of FFW to promote self-reported free-living physical well-being actions in adults who comply with the intervention. The objective of this manuscript is to describe t… Show more

“…Anthropometric data will be assessed by asking each participant their height and weight in the W1, W2, and W3 survey battery. The inclusion of the instruments (e.g., self-efficacy) is consistent with the previous FFW intervention research [ 46 , 49 ].…”

“…There will be secondary feasibility outcomes in Aim 1, 2, and 3. Threshold values for a traffic light system for each of the specific indicators that will be used to evaluate each aim are based on inferences drawn from the results of previous research [ 46 , 47 ] and commonly used heuristics for Cohen’s d [ 48 ]. Data observed below a lower threshold (i.e., resembling red light) will suggest a potentially serious problem.…”

“…Delivery of similar psychological crisis interventions should be a top priority to residents in Hubei, who were identified in our study to be the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although face-to-face gatherings should be kept to a minimum while the pandemic persists, online psychological interventions (e.g., Myers et al, 2019 ) could play a role in promoting a healthy lifestyle and sense of self-efficacy in the present cyber age.…”

“…The accelerometer will be tted securely over the right anterior superior iliac spine. [45][46][47] Following a standardised and widely used protocol, 48 participants will be asked to wear accelerometers for 7 consecutive days [49][50][51][52] with removal only for sleep or when in water (e.g. swimming or shower).…”
