Absolute calibration of atomic density measurements by laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy with two-photon excitation

Abstract: The two-photon resonances of atomic hydrogen (λ = 2 × 205.1 nm), atomic nitrogen (λ = 2 × 206.6 nm) and atomic oxygen (λ = 2 × 225.6 nm) are investigated together with two selected transitions in krypton (λ = 2 × 204.2 nm) and xenon (λ = 2 × 225.5 nm). The natural lifetimes of the excited states, quenching coefficients for the most important collisions partners, and the relevant ratios of the two-photon excitation cross sections are measured. These data can be applied to provide a calibration for two-photon la… Show more

“…Similar to reaction (R 21 ), a mechanism has been proposed in [41] for the generation of O: However, because of air diffusion into the jet, the active species map has to follow a 'donut'-like distribution, with higher intensity on the edges, due to the profile of N 2 , H 2 O and O 2 densities in the afterglow. In fact, the 'donut'-like shape of the LIF OH distribution in the afterglow of a He pulsed discharge operated in ambient air has been observed recently in [42].…”

Data for collisional quenching of OH(A) and ro-vibrational dependent cross-sections can be found in [20,[22][23][24].…”

“…This approach avoids the cumbersome generation of a known amount of atomic radicals from an independent source. The method has recently been demonstrated for the calibration of ground-state H densities 27 as well as of ground-state N densities 27,28 using a two-photon transition in krypton. The method has also been applied to calibrate the fluorescence yield of oxygen atoms via a two-photon transition in xenon.…”
