“…The third permeability marker was the transmembrane water loss (Figure 3C), which was measured using an evaporimeter that is commonly used for the measurement of TEWL in vivo, but it can also be used for in vitro experiments. 47 The water loss of the control membrane was set at 100%, and the other values were normalized to the control. The presence of Cer EOS in the membranes led to higher water loss through these membranes when compared with the control with a maximum at 10% Cer EOS (37% higher than the control; the difference was not significant).…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…On the other hand, the level of ceramide synthesis was significantly reduced in the lesional epidermis of patients (Table 1). These results are in concordance with the results of earlier studies in which decreases in the levels of ceramides, specifically ceramide 1, 4, and 5, have been shown to be associated with increased transepidermal water loss in the psoriatic epidermis (11). Furthermore, a positive correlation between the percentage reduction of ceramide synthesis in the lesional epidermis and clinical severity (r=0.967, p =0.0004) has been demonstrated in this study (Fig.…”

“…Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease characterized by erythematous plaques and scales showing markedly defective barrier function. Previous studies showed that TEWL of psoriatic skin was increased 2–20‐fold compared with the uninvolved skin . In our study, TEWL of psoriatic skin was increased 1.7‐fold compared with the uninvolved skin confirming the previous analyses.…”
