“…The sterol ester content of surface lipid from uninvolved psoriatic skin has been claimed to be increased (Ineedayi andOttenstein, 1941), unchanged (Marchioni et al, 1938;Wilkinson and Farber, 1967a) and decreased (Rothman, 1950;Reinertson and Wheatley, 1959). Rothman (1950) wiped skin of normal subjects and lesion free areas of psoriatic patients with cotton soaked in ether and analysed the lipid so removed. He found that in 9 normals, the percentage of cholesterol esterifled ranged from 60% to 69% whereas in seven psoriatic patients, the range extended from 35% to 60%.…”
