“…A still widely used classification [1] distinguishes allergic, immediate type hypersensitivity mediated ("extrinsic") from nonallergic ("intrinsic") asthma. However, several lines of evidence challenge the dualistic concept of extrinsic and intrinsic asthma [2].…”

“…More importantly, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed that respiratory variability analysis can be useful not only to aid in asthma diagnosis and in differentiating uncontrolled from controlled asthma but also for discriminating between nonatopic and atopic asthma (2). We found decreased long range correlation, irregularity and chaotic nature of respiratory dynamic in non-atopic asthma as compared with atopic asthma, possibly reflecting different pathophysiological mechanisms and maybe justifying a higher degree of disease severity in patients with non-atopic asthma (3). Therefore, complexity analysis of respiratory dynamics may represent a novel physiologic marker to facilitate diagnosis and clinical assessment of respiratory disorders.…”

“…These disorders are well-known Th1-mediated inflammatory diseases. In addition, BAFF induces class-switch DNA recombination to produce IgG, IgA and IgE (Litinskiy et al, 2002), which is in relation to Th2-mediated immune reactionmediated allergic disorder such as asthma (Rackeman, 1947;Ostergaard, 1985;Corrigan, 2004). Previously, our reports have shown that BAFF expression was increased by ROS treatment and Prx II gene deletion and it was differentially regulated from TLR4 by Prx II .…”
