A whole-year simulation study on nonlinear mixed-integer model predictive control for a thermal energy supply system with multi-use components

Abstract: This work presents a whole-year simulation study on nonlinear mixed-integer Model Predictive Control (MPC) for a complex thermal energy supply system which consists of a heat pump, stratified water storages, free cooling facilities, and a large underground thermal storage. For solution of the arising Mixed-Integer Non-Linear Programs (MINLPs) we apply an existing general and optimalcontrol-suitable decomposition approach. To compensate deviation of forecast inputs from measured disturbances, we introduce a mov… Show more

“…Consequently the continuous relaxation does not add any information and using blackbox branch-and-bound solvers is not advisable. This observation is confirmed by the long computing times we observe when solving (SCARP-IP) for higher numbers of intervals N in [2], and the speedup reported when the software package pycombina [4] is applied to CIA from [13] with SCIP [1].…”

“…Therefore, this chapter applies the optimal combination weighting method, combines the subjective evaluation method and the objective evaluation method, fully highlights the differences between the evaluation objects, and adjusts the weights of the evaluation objects reasonably, making the evaluation results more scientific and reasonable. The specific construction ideas are as follows [9][10] :…”

“…Finally, heat noise termsQ n,a,k ,Q n,c,k , k = 1, ..., n r are introduced to the model to depict unknown influences from, for example, occupancy and air exchange, of which no data are available. Similar to (15), these are regarded as states which are estimated during operation, while their development is described by…”
