A Visible and Near-Infrared, Dual-Channel Fluorescence-On Probe for Selectively Tracking Mitochondrial Glutathione

Abstract: A naphthalimide-and cyanine-dressing fluorescent probe is utilized to specifically and selectively detect glutathione in both visible and near-infrared channels, respectively. Cell imaging indicates that this probe can target mitochondria and track intracellular glutathione in dual channels in a spatiotemporal and synchronous manner.

“…Fluorescent probe is a powerful tool for optical imaging, which allows direct visualization of biological analytes. 53 Luminogen 1 was AIEE-active due to the restriction of intramolecular rotation in the aggregate state, which is benecial for cell imaging. Indeed, the viability of HeLa cells incubated with luminogen 1 was evaluated by the standard MTT method (Fig.…”

“…Among these small molecules, GSH is the biothiol with the highest intracellular level . The biothiol maintains redox balance in organisms, and aberrant in vivo biothiol levels are intimately associated with many diseases . Excessive biothiol can result in the occurrence of cancer, heart disease, and other major diseases, and can also accelerate aging .…”
