A Triple-Crystal Diffractometer for High-Energy Synchrotron Radiation at the HASYLAB High-Field Wiggler Beamline BW5

Abstract: The triple-crystal diffractometer installed at HASYLAB beamline BW5 with a high-field wiggler of critical energy 27 keV for DORIS III, operated at 4.5 GeV electron energy, is described. Samples can be mounted in large cryostats or furnaces normally used in neutron scattering experiments. The instrument has been successfully applied to measure structure factors S(Q) in liquids and amorphous materials, to collect full data sets of highly accurate structure factors for charge-density work, to measure the spin com… Show more

“…The XRD experiments were performed with the tripleaxis diffractometer at wiggler beamline BW5 at DESY. 58 To create optimum conditions for studying the bulk properties in transmission geometry, most samples were disk shaped with a diameter (∼ 5 mm) significantly larger than the beam size of 1 × 1 mm 2 , and a thickness (∼ 1 mm) close to the penetration depth of the 100 keV photons (λ = 0.124Å). Counting rates are normalized to a storage ring current of 100 mA.…”

“…An energy scan at fixed wave vector through the (001) antiferromagnetic ordering reflection at 83 K. The inset shows a scan through the same peak in the 00l direction, with the solid line being a Lorentzian fit to the experimental data (open circles). 9 MAY 2003 nonresonant high-energy x-ray diffraction at beam line BW5 at HASYLAB, Germany [18]. Here the same sample was mounted on a four-circle diffractometer with an incident photon energy of 94.8 keV.…”
