Power electronics converters for DC-DC conversion are extensively used in various applications. Further, with an increase in demand for integrating multiple sources with distinct I-V characteristics, a change over from single input DC-DC converters to multiple input converters (MICs) has been observed in the recent past. MICs are widely used for effective integration of energy sources in various applications ranging from milliwatt to megawatt power levels and millivolt to several kilovolts of voltage levels. The combination of sources with respective energy buffering units allow for a new configuration and topology, which are quite confusing and challenging to pick one for a specific application. MICs are categorised based on their characteristics, and each category has its pros and cons depending on the application. Further, this study categorises and comprehensively reviews the MICs based on their characteristics. In this regard, this study aims to provide a clear picture of MICs and the general rules and framework for the selection of MIC topology for a specific application. Also, the key features and limitations of a few recently proposed MICs, followed by the selection of MICs for different applications are discussed.

This work presents an improved phase-locked loop (IPLL)-based control for grid-integrated photovoltaic (PV) system (GIPVS). It is used to extract amplitude, frequency, and phase angle of distorted load currents to control PV-grid-interfaced voltage source converter (VSC). The VSC controls active and reactive powers at unbalances and distortions in the grid voltages. The control algorithm of VSC includes power feed-forward term, DC-link voltage, and grid voltages. The feed-forward term improves the dynamic performance of a GIPVS and enhances the utilisation of VSC. Three-phase IPLLs extract the inphase components of three-phase load currents at utility frequency. Further, these in-phase components of load currents are used for estimation of reference-grid currents. The proposed IPLL-based control algorithm offers good dynamic response even under unbalanced load condition. The efficient working of IPLL-based control algorithm is realised by extracting maximum power from PV-grid system and through its power-quality improvement. The perturb and observe (P & O) control algorithm is used for optimum utilisation of a PV array. A developed prototype of PV-grid system is used to implement an IPLL-based control algorithm under different operating conditions.

This paper proposes a new nonisolated dual-input, single-output (DISO) DC-DC converter. In the proposed converter, by utilizing two three-winding coupled inductors at the primary of each input ports, the capabilities of highvoltage conversion ratio and elimination of input current ripple are achieved for all range of duty cycles (0 < D < 1). Therefore, the proposed converter is applicable in renewable energy systems. The voltage conversion ratio can be increased without selecting high duty cycles for the switches or by using a high number of components. Also, the voltage stresses on switches of the proposed converter are in low level. The proposed converter has simple switching pattern and the two switches turn on/off inversely. Unlike the interleaved converters, the proposed converter has a single conversion ratio for all adopted duty cycles of the switches (0 < D < 1). In this study, the proposed converter is analyzed and the required conditions for eliminating input current ripple, the voltage and current stress on the semiconductors, and the voltage gain are calculated. To confirm the theoretical results, experimental results are extracted for a 14-V/19-V input and 400-V output voltages for the operating power of 350 W.
