“…This finding indicates a high prevalence of the virus among wild L. aestiva populations and is consistent with reports of high incidences of viral infections in other marine arthropods, including penaeid shrimp (34)(35)(36)(37). Currently, quantitative data on DNA viruses in marine arthropods are sparse.…”

“…Most of the research on this topic to date has involved white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) in crustaceans. The average viral load for LaCopCV is on the same order of magnitude as estimated WSSV loads in postlarvae of Fenneropenaeus chinensis (34), and approximately one order of magnitude higher than WSSV loads in Portunuus trituberculatus larvae obtained from diverse locations in Korea (35). The range of LaCopCV viral loads observed is similar to ranges reported in surveys of WSSV among P. trituberculatus larvae (35).…”

“…They suggested that the WSSV DNA copies in shrimp treated with vp28-siRNA were significantly decreased (P < 0.01) by comparison with that of the positive control (WSSV only). Jang et al [76] have quantified the rate of WSSV infection in hatchery-reared post larvae of fleshy shrimp, Fenneropenaeus chinensis through TaqMan real-time PCR assay method. They observed that the post larvae collected from 7 hatcheries showed a range of 2.6e713.6 WSSV DNA copies ng À1 .…”

“…The amplification programme consisted of 40 cycles of denaturation at 95°C for 30 s, annealing at 60°C for 30 s and extension at 72°C for 30 s. A standard curve was obtained using serial dilutions of plasmid pVP28 (full‐length ORF of VP28 gene of WSSV was cloned into pRSETB vector) that were used to quantify the WSSV viral genomic copy number. Each assay was carried out in triplicate (Jang et al., ; Musthaq & Kwang, ). Control animals were inoculated with tissue suspension prepared from uninfected shrimp.…”
