Abstract: Technologies to support the Internet of Things are becoming more important as the need to better understand our environments and make them smart increases. As a result it is predicted that intelligent devices and networks, such as WSNs, will not be isolated, but connected and integrated, composing computer networks. So far, the IP-based Internet is the largest network in the world; therefore, there are great strides to connect WSNs with the Internet. To this end, the IETF has developed a suite of protocols and… Show more

“…Energy consumption for E T X , E RX , E P R and E SN occur only for a fraction of the total active duty cycle whereas energy consumption for E LS and harvested energy E H happen constantly throughout T . Based on these assumptions, the lifetime of the devices is estimated using (1) for N B (battery only, E H is zero) and N H . Fig.…”

“…Internet of Things (IoT) is an intelligent infrastructure of uniquely identifiable devices capable of wirelessly communicating with each other, services and people on a large scale, through the Internet [1]. IoT aims at making the Internet ubiquitous and pervasive and has the potential to affect the quality of life for the users in many aspects.…”

“…Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) and Internet of Things (IoTs) [1] are evolving towards interconnected, sensing and processing infrastructures that are expected to provide services for multiple concurrent users. One of the main reasons of having such shared enterprise deployments is to maximize the return on investment while minimizing operating costs.…”
