A survey on parametric QoE estimation for popular services

Abstract: As we are moving forward to the 5G era, we are witnessing a transformation in the way networks are designed and behave, with the end-user placed at the epicenter of any decision. One of the most promising contributors towards this direction is the shift from Quality of Service (QoS) to Quality of Experience (QoE) service provisioning paradigms. QoE, i.e., the degree of delight or annoyance of a service as this is perceived by the end-user, paves the way for flexible service management and personalized quality … Show more

“…CASPER moves beyond theoretical analysis and focus on the applicability of research findings into an integrated middleware architecture, following industrial requirements and recent standardization activity. The user-centric logic of the CASPER project is based on a deep analysis of the QoE, adopted mainly by the works in [5][6][7] [8], combined with the flexibility and re-configurability provided by the SDN/NFV technology in a bidirectional manner to acquire QoE influence factors from anchor points in the network and to apply QoE-driven network and service management policies.…”

“…This section presents and analyze the KPIs related to QoE functions. The most important KPIs for the end-users' QoE are depicted in Table I [5]. The improvement of one or more of these parameters indicates that QoE will be also improved, and thus, network engineering targeted on these factors should be conducted.…”

“…A study of VoIP QoE evaluation approaches is detailed in [19]. In [20], details are provided of parametric QoE models for a range of popular voice, video, and data services. within addition to presenting models from the literature, it describes standardized ITU-T parametric network planning models for VoIP and online videophone applications, and gives their numerical results; in particular, the dependency of VoIP QoE (MOS) on delay and on packet loss, and the dependency of video QoE on audio/video delay, on packet loss, and on video frame rate requirements.…”

“…This technique permits the user to select the next wireless LAN to reach depending on its power, congestion and bit error rate. Tsolkas et al (2017), the authors furnish a detailed guide to standardized and cutting edge quality evaluation models. They also single out and typify the parametric Quality of Experience (QoE) form for the most of famous service types (i.e., VoIP, video streaming, online video, etc.…”
