Abstract: With the explosive growth of mobile data demand, the fifth generation (5G) mobile network would exploit the enormous amount of spectrum in the millimeter wave (mmWave) bands to greatly increase communication capacity. There are fundamental differences between mmWave communications and existing other communication systems, in terms of high propagation loss, directivity, and sensitivity to blockage. These characteristics of mmWave communications pose several challenges to fully exploit the potential of mmWave co… Show more

“…So, it is not recommended to use these frequencies for long-distance and real-time communication due to a high signal degradation. On the other frequencies, the attenuation drops again and increase slightly as the frequency increases [31], [33]. So, the most of the current research is focused on the 28 GHz band, the 38 GHz band, and the E-band (71-76 GHz and 81-86 GHz).…”

“…Massive MIMO is one of the key techniques that enables significant gains in data rate and increased robustness in the radio link, as seen in Subsection IV-D. With the use of multiple antennas (it's envisioned that more than 100 will be used for mmWaves) [8], it is possible to radiate energy in a more directional manner towards the user, reducing system interference and increasing capacity [106].…”

“…This band enjoys generous spectrum availability and therefore does not require a priori complex techniques such as cross channel polarization, channel aggregation, etc. Centralized and cross-layer control mechanisms appear as necessary for fully exploiting the capabilities offered by the forwarding plane of millimeter waves [9]. In [10], a dynamic resource allocation of an OFDMA based backhaul to small cell is considered.…”
