The increase in the price of crude oil, the environmental impact, or the depletion of fossil resources has increased the need for bio-based alternatives. This has led to the search for renewable, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly raw materials to obtain lubricants that meet these characteristics. This review deals with the state of the art of biolubricants along with their most common raw materials and molecular structures, processes of chemical modification of bio-oils, as well as the relationship between their structural features and physicochemical/tribological properties. This review concludes that the production of fatty acid alkyl esters from vegetable oils is the most promising chemical route to produce a wide range of biolubricants through double transesterification reactions. It also highlights the need to explore this route for the production of microalgae-derived biolubricants due to its environmental benefits during cultivation and production processes.

From the requirements, high-performance cooling systems in the applications of solar, heat exchangers, and chemical industries are needed to improve efficiency. The metal-oxides-based nanofluids composed the better thermal properties with exchange of heat-transfer mechanisms. Therefore, this study mainly focused on nanosilicon dioxide materials to produce the nanofluids with blending of water-base medium by two-step techniques. The scanning electron microscope was used to analyze the presence of silicon dioxide nanoparticles from the procured material. During the two-step method input aspects like weight fraction of silicon dioxide (1.5–4.5 wt%), particle sizes (10–30 µm), pH range of water (5–9), and sonication process time (2–4 hr) were considered. The outcomes like thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity, and viscosity were selected as thermal physical properties. The desirability techniques were implemented to identify the best optimal input parameters from the nanofluid processing. From the desirability outcomes, the processed nanosilicon dioxide fluids with respective input parameters were 0.9623 W/mK for thermal conductivity, 688 J/kg K forspecific heat capacity, and 0.00162 for viscosity, respectively. The heat-transfer coefficient was successfully identified with processed nanosilicon dioxide fluids, and the Nusselt number and Reynolds number were attained with respective heat-transfer coefficients.

Due to their excellent characteristics, vegetable oils are successfully used in various formulations of organic lubricants. In this context, the advanced biodegradability and excellent lubricity performance of rice oil leads to its being considered as a real potential for the lubricants industry. However, as with other vegetable oils, the stability of rice bran oil is strongly influenced by the oxidation process. Therefore, the aim of this work was the oxidation stability monitorization of rice bran oil by spectrophotometric techniques. For this purpose, oxidation tests of rice bran oil at elevated temperatures were performed.In this paper, transmittance spectra were determined, and the trichromatic components and coordinates were calculated, as well as the colour differences for rice oils subjected to a forced oxidation treatment at temperatures of 100 °C and 120 °C for 4, 8 and 10 hours. The results obtained show that, although after the first 4 hours of forced oxidation significant changes appear on the physicochemical properties of rice bran oil, an increase in the test time from 8 to 10 hours does not lead to significant changes in the analysed parameters, the conclusion being valid for both test temperatures.
