A study of 20 SLE patients with intravenous immunoglobulin clinical and serologic response

Abstract: IVIg has a high response rate among SLE patients. A combination of clinical manifestations, Abs and complement levels may aid in the future in predicting who among SLE patients will benefit more from IVIg treatment.

“…L'entità delle risposte alla terapia con IVIG, riportate in letteratura, varia dall'85% nello studio più ampio comprendente 20 pazienti, al 33-100% dei casi in serie più ristrette di pazienti trattati. E' interessante notare come le IVIG siano in grado di normalizzare rapidamente la conta piastrinica nei pazienti affetti da trombocitopenia in corso di LES e come tale effetto si possa estendere a numerose altre, singole manifestazioni cliniche della malattia: dalla poliradicoloneuropatia, all'anemia emolitica, dalle manifestazioni sierositiche, alle alterazioni a carico del sistema nervoso centrale e della cute (30). In merito a quest'ultimo aspetto è interessante segnalare come il gruppo di Galeazzi e Marcolongo abbia dimostrato un significativo miglioramento del pattern di immunofluorescenza nella cute di 6 pazienti affetti da LES dopo 3 cicli mensili di IVIG (31).…”
