A Semi-Classical Approach to Signature Splitting and Signature Inversion in Odd–odd Nuclei

Abstract: The signature inversion observed in rotational bands belonging to high-j configurations of odd–odd deformed nuclei has been analyzed within the framework of an axially symmetric rotor plus two-particle model. The Coriolis and n–p interaction are considered the main cause of energy staggering. However, γ-triaxial deformation and the numbers of valence protons, Np, and neutrons, Nn also contribute to the energy staggering between odd- and even-spin states.

“…The 130 La nuclei were populated in the 116 Sn( 16 O,pn) reaction, using a 70 MeV 16 O pulsed beam (pulse width of 3 ns at a repetition period of 800 ns) on isotopically enriched metallic 116 Sn targets. For the g-factor determination the target consisted of 0.6 mg/cm 2 metallic tin evaporated on a thick Pb backing.…”

“…From these matrices delayed energy spectra have been created to investigate the isomeric transitions. Illustrative delayed γ spectra obtained in the quadrupole interaction measurement for two successive time intervals of 350 ns after the 16 O beam pulse are shown in Fig. 6.…”
