A revision of the genus Lamellipalpus Maulik, 1921 (Coleoptera, Lampyridae)

Abstract: The genus Lamellipalpus Maulik, 1921 is revised. In total, 12 species are recognized 7 of which (with 1 additional new subspecies) are described as new to science: L. atripalpis sp. nov. (India, Meghalaya), L. flavomarginatus sp.nov. (India, Mizoram), L. kubani sp. nov. (W Thailand), L. longipalpis sp. nov. (Nepal), L. nepalensis sp. nov. (Nepal), L. pacholatkoi sp. nov. (NE India), L. p. turaensis ssp. nov. (India, Meghalaya, Tura Hills) and L. sinuaticollis sp. nov. (India, Meghalaya). L. sallei Pic, 1924, s… Show more

“…The subfamily Ototretinae was established by McDermott [ 92 ] and redefined in a broad sense by Crowson [ 14 ], which was followed by Lawrence and Newton [ 91 ] and Brancucci and Geiser [ 93 ]. This group consists of several genera, including Drilaster and Stenocladius .…”

“…It has gone through extensive modifications in familial assignment, ranked hierarchy, definition, and spectrum of included taxa through time, and become stabilized only recently (Olivier 1907, 1910, Wittmer 1944, McDermott 1964, 1966, Crowson 1972, Branham and Wenzel 2001, Geisthardt and Satô 2007, Jeng 2008, Janisova and Bocakova 2013). Several new genera and species, including Oculogryphus Jeng, Engel & Yang, were added over the last two decades (Kawashima 1999, 2007, Kawashima et al 2005, Jeng et al 2007, 2011, Brancucci and Geiser 2009, Bocakova and Janisova 2010, Janisova and Bocakova 2011, 2013, Jeng and Engel 2014, Bocakova et al 2015, Bocakova and Bocak 2016). Currently there are approximately 100 documented species in 21 genera, distributed in the Palaearctic and Oriental Asia with only a few species in the Nearctic realm and in New Guinea of Oceanian realm sensu Holt et al (2013) (Janisova and Bocakova 2013).…”

“…Drilidae were found to be a polyphyletic assemblage by (Crowson (1972) who considered Lamellipalpus a member of predominantly nonluminous fireflies of the subfamily Ototretinae. The placement of closely related Lamellipalpodes in the subfamily Ototretinae was supported by Brancucci & Geiser (2009), and recently by Janisova and Bocakova (2013) who clarified the concept of the Ototretinae. Recently, Branham (2010) revived his previous hypothesis and considered Ototretinae genera (including Lamellipalpodes) as incertae sedis within elateroids, although the placement of Ototretinae within Lampyridae was robustly supported by analyses of DNA sequences (Bocakova et al 2007, Sagegami-Oba et al 2007, Stanger Hall 2007.…”

“…Later, two new species from Nepal were described by Wittmer (1995) and another two species from Thailand and Myanmar (Kawashima 2007). Brancucci and Geiser (2009) recognized another species, L. lineatus (Pic, 1921), originally placed in the genus Eugeusis Westwood, 1853.…”
