A review on wireless power transfer: Concepts, implementations, challenges, and mitigation scheme

Abstract: This paper reviews the current strides in the wireless power transfer (WPT) system. The paper discusses the classification of wireless power transfer, its application, trend and impact on society, advantages as well as disadvantages. It also presents a comparative analysis of existing work done by researchers in the field of wireless power transfer showing the shortcomings in various topologies, communication, and optimization methods used to increase the overall performance efficiency and proffer direction fo… Show more

“…Generally, the wireless power transfer (WPT) is a massive technique for transporting electrical energy from a source to a target load, such as consumer devices, without the need for conductors [1]. Instead of using conventional conductors, the WPT is capable of transporting energy from the power source to the target through the air [2]. Various works have been carried out to analyze, model and characterize the performance of the WPT.…”

“…According to the theoretical analysis, in order to obtain the best transmission performance of the MCRWPT system, the operating frequency of the system should be consistent with the natural resonant frequency of the system, that is, it is in a resonant state. In the process of power transmission, changes in system parameters, such as inductance, capacitance and system operating frequency, will cause system detuning and reduce transmission performance [1]. Many literatures have proposed solutions to the problem of MCRWPT system detuning, such as ensuring the system is in a resonant state through frequency tracking or adding compensation structures to improve system performance [2][3].…”

“…Compared with traditional wired power transmission, wireless power transmission is not bound by wires, and there are no problems such as wire wear, wire aging, and wire clutter. Therefore, WPT has more advantages in safety, convenience, and reliability [1]. At present, the research and application of the magnetic coupling resonance radio energy transmission are the most extensive, which has its unique advantages in many industries, attracting the attention of many researchers and becoming one of the hot research objects.…”
