A review on comparative study of PPI and PAMAM dendrimers

Abstract: Dendrimers are hyperbranched, monodispersed macromolecules with multivalent functional end groups. Dendrimers have been explored as carrier for many drugs like anticancer, antiviral, antimalarial, antiprotozoal, anti tubercular drugs. Although a number of different types of dendrimers containing different core molecules, branching monomers and surface functional groups have been designed till date for drug delivery applications, yet the poly(propyleneimine) (PPI) and poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers have be… Show more

“…Different types of dendrimers have so far been reported. The most commonly used are polyamidoamine (PAMAM) and polypropyleneimine (PPI) dendrimers (Kaur et al 2016) with cores of EDA, DAB or TC, and terminal groups like aldheyde, amine, carboxylate, succinamic acid or amidoethanol (Fig. 2).…”

“…[103][104][105][106][107] Other amine-functionalized polymers that have been widely used to promote cytosolic release of oligonucleotides and pDNA are PAMAM and poly(propyleneimine) (PPI) dendrimers. [103,[108][109][110][111][112] PEI has been proposed to act via the proton sponge effect. [102,103] According to this hypothesis, PEI, and more in general poly mers that contain a large number of secondary and tertiary amine groups with pK a values between physiological and lysosomal pH, can be protonated in the endosomal environment.…”
