A review of the nutritional and health aspects of goat milk in cases of intestinal resection

Abstract: -The objective of this paper is to review the beneficial effects of the dietary inclusion of goat milk on the utilization of protein, fat and minerals (Ca, P, Mg, Fe, Cu, Zn and Se), which affect malabsorption syndrome caused by resection of the intestine. The consumption of a goat milkbased diet, compared to bovine milk, has shown a higher protein efficiency ratio, protein digestibility, nitrogen balance and food conversion ratio in rats with resection of the distal small intestine. Goat milk diet also improv… Show more

“…Goat milk differs from cow, mainly on the basis of its smaller size of fat globules, which cause a better digestibility and higher proportion of short and medium chain fatty acids, which are partly responsible of its stronger flavour (Silanikove et al 2010). Its peculiar properties make it suitable for infants and children, for example in some cases of malabsorption syndrome (Lopez-Aliaga et al 2010).…”

“…Many studies have highlighted the beneficial effects of goat and sheep dairy products on human health, being considered more easily digestible than cow milk [3,4]. Caprine milk has been described as an alternative for infants with cow milk allergies on account of its nutraceutical and hypoallergenic properties due to its high digestibility and the lower presence of β-Lactoglobulin [5,6].…”

“…Goat milk has been widely used to produce various milk products (Amigo and Fontecha, 2011; Lopez-Aliaga et al, 2010). Compared with cow milk, goat milk has lower allergenicity and higher digestibility due to differences in genetic types of amino acids, which lead to the changes in the digestibility (Haenlein, 2004; Park et al, 2007; Yangilar, 2013; Zhao et al, 2014).…”
