“…We focused on patients undergoing TVT procedure who were scheduled to have postoperative bladder drainage for 24 h to select a welldefined, high-risk group that can considerably benefit from chemoprophylaxis. A previous study showed that antibiotic prophylaxis with a daily dose of 100 mg of nitrofurantoin monohydrate decreased UTI compared with placebo after pelvic organ prolapse and/or urinary incontinence surgery with suprapubic catheterization [21].…”

“…Brouwer and Hoogkamp-Korstanje did not find a statistically significant difference regarding development of UTI in patients receiving single-dose ceftriaxone or cefuroxime plus metronidazole prophylaxis [15]. In 2004, Rogers et al, in a total of 435 patients of which 59% underwent a retropubic urethropexy and in whom suprapubic catheterization was used, found that a preoperative dose of cephalosporin plus postoperative nitrofurantoin monohydrate was associated with less development of UTI than the use of preoperative cephalosporin and placebo (7.2% vs 19.8%) [16]. Finally, in 2007, Cormio et al compared two ultra-short-term prophylaxis schemes (amoxicillin-clavulanic acid versus cefazolin) which both showed similar results regarding effectiveness as 6.8% and 4.4% were the UTIs in each group respectively [17].…”

“…8 Four sites in this multicenter trial also recruited women to participate in a sexual function study, which has also been described previously. 9 These women form the present study population.…”
