As the Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) service enters the broadcasting market, the competition intensifies. This paper explains the factors influencing new media subscription and their influential differences on IPTV and digital cable TV (DCTV). We use the information systems success model and gratification opportunity theory to develop our research model. We sample 621 people and collect their responses through web-based measuring software. Structural model analysis shows that the willingness to subscribe to a new broadcasting medium is influenced by three characteristics of the medium: media richness, interactivity, and video quality. Multigroup analysis reveals that motivation to use a medium partially differs between IPTV and DCTV. This research concludes that the IPTV service is not attractive enough to act as a substitute for the already existing DCTV. In addition, for the IPTV service to proliferate, its business model should be promoted with new and differentiated revenue structures and services. The managerial implications in this study help new media businesses set business goals and product functionality, and allocate resources for the continued diffusion of IPTV.

Delivering the real-time services over converged networks is a big challenge. Real-time services need to high Quality of Service (QoS). For this purpose, bandwidth reservation and packet prioritization techniques are used. Thus, real-time data packets can be reached to their targets with minimum delays and losses.But, this situation creates unintended consequences for other internet services such as HTTP and FTP. In this case, establishing a balance between the real-time services and the other services is a must. In this study we introduce a new research question: how to transport real-time multimedia IP packets just in Network Protocols and Algorithms ISSN 1943-3581 2017 www.macrothink.org/npa 29 time? Just in time means that transportation of the packets neither early, nor late. For this purpose we developed a scheduling/prioritizing algorithm called just in time transport (JITT). Following a cross-layer design approach, JITT controls delay and jitter over whole communication path. We evaluated JITT on the different simulations and one experimental testbed for performance analysis. Our findings support that JITT provides stable delay and low jitter and transports the packets nearly just in time.

Streaming media systems such as YouTube, Netflix, and Apple Music are reining the multimedia world with frequent popularity among users. A key concern of quality perceived for video streaming applications over Internet is the Quality of Experience (QoE) that users experience. Due to changing network conditions, bit rate and initial delay, the multimedia file freezes or provides poor video quality to the end users. Researchers across industry and academia have explored HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS), which splits the video content into multiple segments and offers the clients varying qualities. The video player at the client side plays a vital role in buffer management and choosing the appropriate bit rate for each segment of video to be transmitted. A higher bit rate transmitted video pauses in between whereas, a lower bit rate video lacks in quality, requiring a tradeoff between them. The need of the hour was to adaptively vary bit rate and video quality to match the transmission media conditions. Furthermore, the main aim of this paper is to give an overview on the state of the art of HAS techniques across multimedia and networking domains. A detailed survey was conducted to analyze challenges and solutions in adaptive streaming algorithms, QoE, network protocols, buffering, etc. It also focuses on various challenges on QoE influence ISSN 1943-3581 2017 www.macrothink.org/npa 86 factors in a fluctuating network condition, which are often ignored in present HAS methodologies.
