A QoE Management System for Ubiquitous IPTV Devices

Abstract: The use of the triple-play services is growing up very quick in the recent years. This has come by the hand of the higher bandwidth offered in broadband access by the service providers. IPTV is the service that has been experienced more request, although it was the least developed. One of its biggest problems is to meet enough quality of experience (QoE) for the customers. This paper presents a QoE management system to guaranty enough IPTV QoE to the customer independently of its type of connection (wired or w… Show more

“…To support interactive communication and maintain highdefinition video quality, a transmission speed of more than 15 Mbps should be consistently maintained [19]. Also, from the IPTV perspective, the offer of a "triple-play service (TPS)" (high-speed Internet access, voice over IP, and video on demand (VoD)) raises the issue of how to measure and manage user-perceived video quality, including user experience and emotion, as well as the quality of service (QoS) [20]- [21]. In this sense, the high video quality of a new media device is recognized as a core element for the full-fledged diffusion of a new media service [19].…”

“…As a result, most of the standardized quality assessment methodologies for subjective testing were deficient in handling these gaps [4,5]. Some existing surveys disclosed HAS visual quality [6,7] or various streaming methodologies [8,9,10,11]. However, no in-depth analysis on essential application and transport protocols, challenges of streaming with heterogeneous network, and problems and solution of adaptive streaming towards providing better quality multimedia content delivery has been performed so far.…”
