A Public Database on Traumatic Brachial Plexus Injury

Abstract: 17We hereby present the first worldwide public digital database centred on adult Traumatic Brachial 18Plexus Injury (TBPI). This initiative aims at reducing distance between clinical and experimental 19 practice and encouraging data sharing and reuse. Detailed electronic questionnaires made with the 20 free software LimeSurvey were designed to collect patients' epidemiological, physical and clinical 21data. The freely available software Neuroscience Experiments System (NES) was employed to 22 support data stor… Show more

“…From June 2018 to August 2020, TBPI patients from a database maintained by the Laboratory of Neuroscience and Rehabilitation of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro were invited to participate in the study. This database contains epidemiological, physical, clinical and surgical information of a large cohort of TBPI patients (Patroclo et al, 2019). The following inclusion criteria were used to select the patients to participate in this study: unilateral TBPI diagnosed by clinical evaluation or complementary exams, age between 18 and 60 years, right-hand dominance before TBPI verified with Edinburgh Handedness Inventory (Oldfield, 1971).…”

“…Patients with TBPI were recruited from a database ( Patroclo et al, 2019 ) maintained by the Laboratory of Neuroscience and Rehabilitation of the Institute of Neurology Deolindo Couto of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro from June 2018 to September 2019. This database contains patients’ epidemiological, physical and clinical information collected by a multidisciplinary team through digital questionnaires.…”

“…An example of such an application can be seen in the NeuroMat Open Database (NeuroMat DB) 12 , an initiative that provides an open-access platform for sharing and searching data and metadata from neuroscience experiments. Electroencephalographic (Martins et al, 2017;Hernández et al, 2021) and clinical data (Patroclo et al, 2019;Ramalho et al, 2019) collected within NeuroMat and organized in NES were made publicly available through the NeuroMat DB Web portal. Figure 13 shows a page that lists these datasets.…”

“…An anonymized portion from the TBPI database on NES was made publicly available on the NeuroMat Open Database Web portal 13 . As far as we know, this is the first worldwide open digital database centered on adult TBPI (Patroclo et al, 2019).…”
