“…With our research and literature contributions on this subject, we can say that although PDA is sometimes incorrectly described as a disease, it must be borne in mind that it can close without the need for medical treatment, and we believe it should be stressed that the drugs used for PDA closure are not entirely harmless. The scoring systems used for PDA management in recent years are an indicator that PDA can close on its own without the need for medication, especially in mild cases (El‐Khuffash et al, 2021). We believe that clinically stable infants not receiving high respiratory support should be evaluated both clinically and echocardiographically but should not be given medical treatment (Hamrick et al, 2020; Oncel et al, 2014; Smith & El‐Khuffash, 2020).…”

“…Only a few trials examined the effectiveness of treating pre-symptomatic PDA detected by early echocardiography. [4][5][6] However, their sample sizes were limited and the effectiveness of the early treatment of pre-symptomatic PDA has not been determined. 4,7,8 This has led to variations in practice without a consensus approach.…”

“…Similar problems (either unexpectedly low rates of drug-induced PDA closure or high rates of spontaneous closure) existed in 2 additional pilot RCTs, that enrolled infants within 72 hours of birth. 77 , 78 Future RCTs will clearly need more effective PDA closure strategies.…”
